Christmas Dui Arrests Up In California

|

According to the California Highway Patrol, drunk driving arrests over the Christmas holiday season are up from 2014.

During the 12-hour heightened law enforcement period of 6 p.m. Christmas Eve to 6 a.m. of Christmas Day 156 people were arrested throughout California on suspicion of drunk driving. This is up from the 142 DUI arrests in 2014.

Between 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve to 6 a.m. on December 26th, 350 people were reported to have been arrested on suspicion of DUI. During the same time period in 2014, only 285 people were arrested.

While arrests may have been up, fatalities were down. Ten fatalities were reported by the CHP. This is down five from the 15 that were reported in 2014.

It should be noted that the DUI arrests numbers above are only those made by the CHP. They do not include statistics on the DUI arrests made by other law enforcement agencies. The CHP only investigates incidences and collisions on freeways and roads in unincorporated areas.

Fatalities reported by the CHP, on the other hand, were for all law enforcement agencies throughout California.
